Brave Ardara bow out
Ardara ladies made their provincial exit at the first hurdle on Sunday last when a physically stronger Newtownbutler had just too much for Martin Shovlin’s young charges.
The visitors bossed the opening thirty minutes and exited at the break with a deserving five-point advantage at Pearse Park.
However, after the turnaround, the hosts improved and with Aoife McDonnell to the fore, Ardara managed to drag themselves back to within a goal of the leaders at the midpoint of the second-half.
Indeed, the county girl claimed all three of her side’s scores in that first period and she really took the game to the Fermanagh champions after the interval.
Half-time: Ardara 0-3, Newtownbutler 1-5.
Both sides found the back of the net minutes into the new half, and it was McDoneel that once again came to her side’s immediate rescue after they had coughed up the initial green flag.
Carol Breslin, Tanya Barrett and McDonnell added points with just one reply coming up the other end to leave Ardara 1-7 to the away side’s 2-6.But it was the Fermanagh girls that finished the strongest, adding two late points to seal a deserving win.
