    Ladies season round-up

In early February the Ladies met to form a new Board which saw the following elected: Tomas Boyle, Chairman, Leanne Sweeney, Secretary and David Kelly Treasurer.

The Club fielded U12, U14, U16 and Senior Ladies.  The U12s were on a Blitz basis.  The U14 and U16s took part in the Southern League.  All the Teams were well coached by all their Coaches this year.  The Ladies are indebted to Shiela in the Restaurant in the Heritage Centre for her generous sponsorship for Gear for the Team and also to Eamon Doherty and Whyte Café for their support in the past year.

The U12s this year were managed by Tomas Boyle, Alana Sweeney and Clare McHugh and they competed in various Blitzes which involved N Conaill, St Nauls, Bundoran, Kilcar and Four Masters.

The U14s were managed by Terry McCole, Joe McLaughlin, Clare McHugh and John Sweeney.  They competed in the League and as League Runners Up in their Group they competed in the B Championship which saw victorious over Cloughaneely, Glenswilly and Four Masters in the County Final which was played in Fintra.  Lara Sweeney and Natasha Mc Cole represented the Club on the County U14 Ladies Team.

The U16 Team were managed by Terry McCole, Joe McLaughlin and John Sweeney.  They also competed in the League which saw they qualify for the County B Final against St Nauls in Dunkineely.  A good performance by the girls but were outdone by a much stronger St Nauls side but once again a great achievement by both Team and Managers.  Una McLaughlin represented the Club on the County U14 Ladies Team.

The Senior Ladies brought great glory to the Club by winning the Intermediate Championship and League to finish off what was a great year.  They had impressive victories in all of their five league matches during the year with their last league game away to Milford on Sunday 18th November and that was the victory that would give them the League title on a score of 5.09 to 2.08.  In the Championship they had convincing wins over Malin in their home and away which saw them meet Cloughaneely in the County Intermediate Final and won on a score of 2.13 to 2.06 capturing the Intermediate Title for the fist time in nine years. The team on the day were Patricia McDevitt; Alana Sweeney: Stephanie Sweeney: Sharon Kilbane; Aisling Corcoran: Ciara Watters: Mairead Watters; Aoife Watters (1-0): Aoife McDonnell (0-3); Grace Feeney, Tanya Barrett (1-0): Leanne Sweeney: Carol Breslin (0-5): Jenny McNelis (1-4): Una McLaughlin.  Subs: Karen Craig for Grace Feeney, Amanda Shovlin for Leanne Sweeney, Claire Maguire for Alana Sweeney, Sinead Gavigan for Una McLaughlin, Tara Maguire for Jennifer McNelis.

Ciara D Shovlin, Aoife McDonnell and Aoife Watters represented the Club on the Donegal Senior Ladies Team that lost to Cork in the All Ireland Quarter Final.

The Team also played a number of challenge games during the year.  Overall the Club had a very good year with some good young talent coming through to blend with the more experienced members.  The Club are encouraging some new people to help out with the Coaching in the coming year.  It was nice to some of the Senior Men Players helping out during the past year.

Thanks to all the Management Team for their great work with the Team all year.
